Is Clear Grip Tape Good for Skateboarding? What You Need to Know.
When it comes to skaters, no two have the same style, stance, or way of performing tricks. Because of that, a wide variety of skateboard grip tapes exist- including clear grip tape. A lot of information (and mis-information) has been floating around the Internet regarding clear grip tape, so the team at Jessup decided to shed some light on fact versus fiction when it comes to deciding if clear grip tape is a good buy for your skateboarding needs.
Is Clear Grip Tape the Best?
This is a tough call. While many skaters have flocked to clear grip tape because it shows off their boards unique designs others skaters have cursed it for getting dirty super quick. However, with a few simple tips you can ensure that your clear grip tape remains clear.
Grab a few inexpensive supplies to clean your clear grip tape. Natural rubber, a soft wire brush, rag, hairdryer and a little cup of water will do the trick. Rub the natural rubber over the board to remove debris and then grab your soft wire brush and using a soft circular motion go over the board to get the ground in dirt out. Use the rubber once again to remove excess dirt and wipe down with a little water, then dry with a hair dryer.
Is Clear Grip Tape Sticky?
The whole point of grip tape is to help you stick your tricks and prevent feel from slipping.
Clear grip tape comes from a variety of manufacturers, so make sure the one you choose designs a quality product. Some clear grip tapes will tear up your shoes within a few weeks (even days!), while others have perfected the ability to still provide the necessary traction required for trick riding, but without the threat to your shoes.
Jessup Manufacturing has engineered our clear grip specifically to keep the integrity of your shoes in tack (i.e. they will last a lot longer!). Using our Silicon Carbide Grip formulation, our clear grip tape remains stick trick after trick while making sure you don’t need to keep shelling out money for new skate shoes.
Other Clear Grip Tape Considerations
A few other pointers when it comes to purchasing clear grip tape for your skateboard. Make sure you choose a grip tape that offers a bubble-proof application. Bubbling can ruin the look of your board and also can make your grip tape less effective. And like any grip tape on your board, try to not get it wet. The board is wood so that in itself can cause problems, but water on your grip tape can lessen its lifespan. If you do happen to get your grip tape wet, grab a hair dryer ASAP and get to work.
