Preventing Losses with the Proper Fire Safety Signage

In the event of a fire, every second counts when it comes to getting the situation under control. That’s why safety measures need to be in place at all times, and fire safety gear, like your facility’s fire extinguishers, must be rapidly identifiable. This is where a fire extinguisher sign is vital. Providing the visual clarity necessary in a crisis, a fire extinguisher safety sign is vital for drawing immediate attention to the site of one or more fire extinguishers. When flames appear, that fire extinguisher symbol – easy to spot quickly - becomes an extremely welcome sight. Correctly used, a portable fire extinguisher can prevent injuries, protect material assets, and even save lives, whether by extinguishing a minor fire or at least lessening its severity until professional firefighters come onto the scene to put it out entirely. But you have to be able to locate the extinguisher quickly (thanks to a well-placed fire extinguisher arrow sign), and you must know how to use it safely and correctly. Here we will examine a few simple things to keep in mind when it comes to caring for and using fire extinguishers.

The last thing you want is to reach for the fire extinguisher in an emergency, only to find that it isn’t working, or that it isn’t even there. To stop fire extinguishers from being relocated or somehow impaired, they should be properly mounted. This can be done using brackets or a wall cabinet designed for that purpose. Moreover, the fire extinguisher’s carrying handle should be positioned three and a half to five feet off the floor beneath. If you’re mounting a larger fire extinguisher, it ought to be positioned on the lower end of these guidelines.  When it’s time to use the fire extinguisher, stay calm. Panic will not help you put out the fire any more quickly. Begin at a safe distance from the flames about eight feet back. Pay attention to how the fire is reacting to your efforts. Only advance if you see clear evidence that extinguishing agent is having a noticeably diminishing effect on the blaze. This is no time to stubbornly pursue an effort that isn’t working; if the flames are not brought quickly under control, vacate the premises. Your own safety is the top priority.

Remember that the type of extinguisher you use and store should be appropriate for the structure or building housing it. Moreover, bear in mind that portable extinguishers, designed for home use, are not intended to be a match for a big fire, or one that is increasing. When it comes to using a fire extinguisher, as in all emergency situations, the work is done well before the crisis occurs. To be sure you’ll go into hazardous circumstances prepared should they arise, remember that the person operating the fire extinguisher must already know how to use it. Obviously, you will not have the time to pause and read the operating instructions and safety guidelines while a fire is actively burning. So, be prepared, and enjoy peace of mind knowing you’re ready to handle this kind of emergency.
